Estimated eBay Payout & Margin

How to calculate eBay fees and profit

Quick answer: For a US seller without an eBay Store, the editable most-categories starting point is 13.6% of the total sale amount up to $7,500 per item, 2.35% on the portion above $7,500, plus a $0.30 fee for orders of $10 or less or $0.40 for orders over $10.

Estimated profit = item revenue + buyer-paid shipping - eBay fees - product cost - seller-paid shipping - packaging - other advertising

eBay's fee base can include the item price, handling, buyer-paid shipping, sales tax, and other applicable amounts. Sales tax collected by eBay increases the fee base in this estimate but is not counted as seller revenue.

Worked eBay fee example

Suppose an item sells for $50 with $6 buyer-paid shipping and $4.40 sales tax. At a 13.6% final value rate, a $0.40 order fee, and a 3% Promoted Listings general rate, estimated eBay fees are $10.43. If product cost is $16, shipping is $5.50, and packaging is $1.20, estimated profit is $22.87 on $56 of seller revenue, or about a 40.8% margin.

Which eBay fees are included?

  • Final value percentage fee: a category-dependent percentage of the total sale amount.
  • Per-order fee: automatically modeled as $0.30 up to $10 and $0.40 above $10, unless overridden.
  • Insertion fee: enter a charge when the listing is outside your zero-insertion-fee allowance.
  • Promoted Listings general fee: modeled as a percentage of the total sale amount when applicable.
  • Other advertising: enter actual Priority campaign CPC or other ad cost separately.

Important limitations

Rates vary by category, Store subscription, item price, seller performance, country, international delivery, listing upgrades, disputes, and policy changes. The calculator does not automatically select a category or reproduce account-specific invoices. Reconcile important estimates against the fee details in Seller Hub.

Frequently asked questions

Does eBay calculate its fee on shipping and sales tax?

For standard US selling fees, eBay says the total amount of the sale includes item price, handling, shipping collected from the buyer, sales tax, and other applicable fees, with specific shipping exceptions.

Is the final value fee always 13.6%?

No. The 13.6% input is a non-Store most-categories planning default. Category-specific rates and Store rates differ, so edit the percentage and threshold to match the listing.

Does this include Promoted Listings?

Yes, for a general-strategy percentage scenario. For Priority campaigns charged per click, enter the actual attributed CPC cost in the other-advertising field.
